Design Direction: Week 4, One Room Challenge - Solutions

Hi Everyone,

Welcome back to another week of the One Room Challenge. Last week I went into detail about some of the challenges that make our office space especially difficult to work with. This week, I want to share photos that capture the progress we’ve made and also give some more information about how we’ve worked around those challenges. Keep reading for the latest updates on our office redesign…

Creating Space

Well, we’ve finally cleared the boxes! Space has been a major difficulty for us throughout this whole project. Luckily, after we hosted our tent sale at the beginning of October, we were able to clear up the entire office a lot. You’ll notice that the walls are completely bare currently and that’s because we sold almost all of the art and what didn’t sell went to storage to make room for new pieces. We also took a lot of other items that were causing unnecessary clutter off to storage for the time being. Having a lot more free space has really helped us fully envision the space and get into the nitty-gritty.

Reorganizing

Once we cleared up space, we were really able to do a deep-dive into the layout and get things moved around. We moved our office living room to a different location and reorganized our desks all to one side of the room and it has made the room feel so much bigger. We were even able to add a conference room table into the main office as an extra place to hold meetings, display art for review, and gather around for lunch. We placed the table between two of the three pillars I had talked about last week, and although the pillars are still not ideal, the table was the perfect fit for that spot.

Finding Light

Remember the lighting issue I talked about? Well, we ditched the track lighting and it with these beautiful pendant lights from Hudson Valley Lighting in the prettiest shade of blue. We also added new lamps from Lamps Plus to our living room and desks.

I’m so excited because next week we’re going to be talking about art and putting the finishing touches on the space. I’ll give you a sneak peek at some of the pieces we selected and also give some background on why we chose certain pieces.

Cheers!

Xx
