Out of Office: The Most Secluded Beaches I’ve Traveled To

Hi Everyone,

Over the past decade, I’ve had the opportunity to travel to some pretty incredible places and have fallen in love with destinations that surpassed my wildest dreams. I never tire of the energy of a packed beach or shores lined with colorful umbrellas, but I have to say, one of the greatest joys in life is having a beach all. to. your. self. Bet that caught your attention… (ha!). With a few travel destinations under my belt now, I’ve been reminiscing on some of the most secluded beaches I’ve been to, and I decided today was the day to share some of my personal recs with you all. Because let’s be honest, who doesn’t like the idea of remote beaches all over the world just waiting to be explored?

WHITEHAVEN BEACH, AUSTRALIA

The Whitsunday Islands in Australia are stunning overall, but Whitehaven Beach is one spot that especially can’t be missed. It’s definitely not a total breeze to get to, but once you’re there, you’ll never want to leave! I mean, just take these ethereal waters and luminous sands as proof…

The best part about this destination is that it has well-established resorts to fit any price range, yet there’s still enough natural landscape with that “undiscovered” feeling that makes it feel a world away from daily life. You can even go for the private island experience if that’s up your alley (and do-able with your budget).

MATIRA BEACH, BORA BORA

Ah, Bora Bora… Where to begin? This destination has a reputation for being undeniably romantic, and for good reason. Some of the most beautiful beaches are connected to the high-end resorts on the island, but the most stunning public beach has to be Matira Beach.

While it may not be quite as secluded as the other private Bora Bora beaches, it is just as breathtaking, and the open, crystal-clear waters will have you feeling like you have the entire island to yourself.

MAKALAWENA BEACH, HAWAII

Makalawena Beach is a hidden gem on the Big Island of Hawaii—so hidden, in fact, that it can’t be reached by road. In order to get to this pristine spot, you have to endure a relatively rough hike out to the beach, and the surrounding land is privately owned so any visitors are required to stay on the sand. There are also no facilities in this particular spot, so plan accordingly!

KAUAPEA BEACH, HAWAII

Better known as “Secret Beach,” this little spot of pristine shoreline on the island of Kauai is exactly the kind of off-the-beaten path destination that many vacationers yearn for. Hawaii is a well-known tourist destination, so it can be hard to really get away from it all, but this half-mile long beach is an incredible start.

The nickname “Secret Beach” is quite fitting for the location, considering it requires traveling a dirt road and then a rocky, unmarked trail to reach it. But for this kind of alone time on the island, it’s worth it.

SALINE BEACH, ST. BARTHS

It could be argued that any beach on St. Barths is the most scenic and beautiful, but one of the more secluded shorelines is at Saline Beach. If you’re looking for privacy to lounge sans bathing suit, this will likely be your best bet—nudity isn’t allowed in St. Barths, but most who challenge this guideline go here.

COLUMBIER BEACH, ST. BARTHS

Last, but certainly not least, is Columbier Beach. This spot wards off anyone who isn’t willing to make the trek to the sand, as it requires a half-hour hike down to the beach. Or, if you’d rather, you can reach it by boat from Gustavia.

Have you ever visited any of these secluded beaches? Which one is next up on your list?

Here’s to your next escape…

Cheers,

xx
