Behind the Scenes: The Making of Dogs of Aspen

Hi Everyone,

I hope by now that you've all had the chance to explore my latest series, Dogs of Aspen. After my first Aspen series was such a fan favorite, I was ready to return to this stunning winter wonderland canvas to create a fantasy world, but this time with beloved dogs enjoying this snowy escape. It was so fun watching it all come to life!

I shot this series in the beginning of December, just as the snow was really starting to come down! We were so lucky to have Good Morning America be a part of this shoot, as they interviewed me along the way for behind the scenes insider content! See the full Good Morning America feature linked here.

Piggybacking off my original Aspen shoot, we wanted to bring a vintage ski look at feel, but this time with some stylish furry friends! The Little Nell entrance is so stunning, and truly evokes the start of a winter getaway, so we found this adorable blue vintage Porsche, and pulled it up front as if the dogs were about to check in for their weekend escape to the slopes.

We sourced many vintage props for this shoot including wooden skis and snow shoes, a wooden sled, lawn chairs, thermoses, ski hats, goggles, scarves, picnic baskets, coolers, ice skates, and more. We used the gondola to transport many props to the top of the mountain, and had over 20 dogs, so you can only imagine what a sight it was to see all of us heading up the mountain with our hands full, and lots of tails wagging!

This dreamy scene was shot at Ajax tavern - for anyone who has ever skied in Aspen, you probably know that truffle fries from Ajax are easily the best post-ski run snacks ever, situated right at the bottom of the mountain. For the shoot, the chefs at Ajax were so awesome, and created a delicious spread of the most popular items on the menu for these well trained pups to pose with; the team devoured everything once the scene was wrapped.

We used a couple Dalmatians in the Dogs of Aspen shoot, but this Dalmatian in particular is hard not to love - meet Wiley, he has a heart shaped nose!

The dogs were so well behaved and an absolute joy to work with. If you enjoyed this series, be sure to check out my Dogs of New York and Dogs of Beverly Hills series as well. All the dogs were so sweet and friendly - I was thrilled with the variety of poses and looks they were able to offer, and I'm so happy with how whimsical this series turned out.

I love getting to share these behind-the-scenes moments with you all after each of my series releases. Since I can't bring all of you on set with me, this is the next best thing! It also gives me the chance to look back on my process and reflect on the memories. Do you have a favorite image from the series? You can explore all of the Dogs of Aspen here.

Cheers!
