Sips & Snacks: Rhode Island Red Cocktail

In case you haven’t heard the news… Gray just released brand new images from Newport, Rhode Island and Block Island (a quaint little island off the coast), and we’re totally smitten with that East Coast life. Although we live on the West Coast, we’ve been known to indulge in the best things the Eastern U.S. has to offer, and today we’re doing just that. We couldn’t get those prepster, All-American vibes out of our mind after sifting through Gray’s latest images, so today we bring you our cure—the Rhode Island Red cocktail. And believe it or not, this drink actually combines the best of both worlds… Vincenzo Marianella actually founded this cocktail while living in the state of California, but created it as a nod to the anniversary of Rhode Island’s Royal Charter of 1663. So now that you know a little more about why we love it, let’s get sipping, shall we?

Ingredients:

8 fresh raspberries

1 ½ oz. tequila

¾ oz. Chambord

½ oz. lemon juice

orange bitters (if you can’t find orange bitters at the store, regular bitters will work)

3 oz. ginger beer

fresh mint

ice

Note: If you prefer your cocktails to be extra sweet, you can also add ¼ oz. simple syrup, but we think the sweetness from the ginger beer is just enough.

Directions:

Begin by muddling your fresh raspberries in a bowl. This will be mixed in with your cocktail, but you can also use any whole raspberries you have left over to add to a fresh raspberry skewer as garnish.

Add tequila, Chambord, lemon juice, orange bitters, and ginger beer to glass of your choice. Add ice until full.

Divide your muddled raspberries evenly between the glasses, and add on top of each cocktail. Mix gently to combine, while still leaving enough to be seen at the top.

Peel the skin of half a lemon, and cut into a small strip. Twist and hold until curled.

Garnish cocktails with lemon twist, fresh mint sprigs, and fresh raspberry skewers if you choose.

Toast to the East Coast!

Have you ever had a Rhode Island Red? Are you going to try this recipe at home?
