The Art of Having Fun

Shades of Gray: My 2020 New Year’s Resolutions

Hi Everyone!

I hope all of you have had a great start to the new year. Now that we’ve entered a new decade, it’s had me thinking about my 2020 New Year’s resolutions. While any time of the year is great to focus on reinventing yourself and what you want to accomplish, it never feels quite the same or as motivating (or fun!) when it isn’t a new year. For this year, a lot of my 2020 resolutions relate to some of the lessons I learned during my family’s stay at our newly renovated lake house in Michigan. I wanted to continue on that trend and focus on being in the moment and enjoying all of the amazing things life has to offer, so scroll through to see my new year resolutions and how I’d like to start off the new decade…

Spending More Time As A Family

Being so busy with work can make it tricky to find time to relax with loved ones. But in 2020 I truly want to focus on creating beautiful memories and spending quality time with my family—which is why one of my major resolutions this year is to spend more time together. While it sounds a lot easier than done, I want to make sure than I’m balancing my career goals and my family goals too. (Plus, it’s hard to resist extra hours at home with these two little ones now in our lives!)

Unplugging More Often

So much of my life is spent online that unplugging is necessary to stay sane. Even just unplugging for an hour and reading a good book makes my mind feel at ease and relaxed, so I definitely want to incorporate more times in the day and throughout the week where I can think freely without staring at my computer or phone screen.

Improving My Cooking Skills

While it can be difficult to set aside time from a busy day of work to prep and create a comforting meal, I am taking it upon myself this year to make cooking at home a priority. It’s so easy to order in food and buy pre-made meals these days. However, there’s nothing like enjoying a home-cooked meal made with a lot of love, and as I improve my cooking skills, there’s no greater satisfaction than creating an amazing meal for everyone to share too.

Get Outdoors More Often

When Jeff and I were in Michigan, we took the twins on walks and to activities at the pool, the farm, and the beach every day. This year, I want to focus on being outside more and truly appreciating all of my beautiful surroundings. L.A. has so many gorgeous hikes, parks, and beaches, it’s a crime that I don’t see them more often. Whether it’s watching a sunset, a walk in the park, or a casual hike, I want to make more time in my day to take in all the beautiful things around me.
