Design Direction: My 2019 Color Trend Predictions

Hi Everyone,

I love this time of year for many reasons, but one of my absolute favorite things about the New Year is looking back and reflecting on the interior design trends from the past year. It’s always so interesting to me seeing how trends have grown and evolved and to predict what’s in and what’s out for the coming year. We’ve covered everything from fall color trends paired with GM prints to the most inspiring interior design Pinterest accounts to follow on the blog this yearand let me just tell you, we have some exciting new design content in store for you in 2019... starting now!

Today I want to kick things off by sharing my predictions for the top 2019 interior design color trends. I plan to see these colors pop up all over the place this year, so I suggest you stock up on a few prints in these inspiring hues…

Sage Green

If you’ve taken a even one scroll on Pinterest this past year, then it’s highly likely you stumbled across a kitchen or two drenched in this ever-popular deep green-grey hue. This color definitely had a moment in the spotlight in 2018 (especially during fall and winter), and I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, I think we’ll see plenty of it’s lighter version, sage, in the mix too. Get ahead of the trend and pick up one of these prints to update your home forthe coming year.

Clay Pink

Each and every year, pink seems to take on a new hue, and this year I expect to see lots of this muted, earthy pink. Not only does it evoke some Miami vibes (that I can’t help but love), but its warm undertones also double as a daring neutral in place of your basic beige. If the thought of clay pink makes your heart flutter even just the tiniest bit, then these are the prints you _need_this year…

Farmhouse Blue

You know I I can't get enough of my classic navy, but this year I think the most popular blue will be a slightly lighter variation, complete with just a hint of teal and grey. I always think of a farmhouse style kitchen when I see this shade ofblue, but I have no doubt we’ll start seeing this color in everything from furnishings, to prints, to paint in 2019.

Pastel Lilac

With the 2018 Pantone Ultra Violet being such a bold pick, I anticipate this coming year will see the softer side of this hue. Pastels have been more popular than ever these past few years, and, although more recent trends embrace deep, rich colors, I think pastel lilac will stick around. Think of it as a modern and unexpected update to the ever-popular Millennial Pink… which doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon either.

Mustard

There’s clearly been an obsession with brass and gold finishes in recent years, but this coming year I wouldn’t be surprised to see this translate to pieces other than cabinet pulls and metal finishes. However, when branching out to other pieces in the home, I think this color will take the form of a richer, goldenyellow-brown that will work equally well on accessories, furniture, and even textiles like cognac leather. Here are a few prints in this color scheme…

What colors do you think will be “in” for 2019?

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Tell me what you think by shouting out at me on social media @GrayMalin.

Cheers,
