Hi Everyone,

Hot off our latest release of the new beach aerials from Australia, I've got another beauty of a home decor story to share with you all today. This time, we're bringing the beaches of Byron Bay to the big apple, New York City, with our friend and contributor, Lauren Nelson. We first met Lauren last summer when she shared her love of preppy decor as well as a mild obsession with brass accessories in the redesign of her bedroom. Then, she was back later that year with her insider'sNYC Travel Guide.

Since then, she's been a busy girl, as she did what many avoid at all costs - she moved. She stayed in the city but regardless of distance a move is never easy. Lucky for us, though we get to be part of the fun part. The decorating! Without further delay, lets jump in and hear all about it.

So, Lauren, won't you please tell us about your new place? What prompted the move?

My new place is located on the Upper East Side which I'm completely obsessed with! Some of my friends will complain that the UES is so far away but it's really not, I promise! It's so quiet and has a ton to offer including Central Park, great shopping, restaurants and workout studios. After three years in my old apartment (located in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan), it started to feel a bit crammed. My lease was coming up, so I decided it was time to start looking. My number one priority when I was looking to move was a great space that I could decorate and entertain in. I absolutely love my new building so I haven't looked back since!

That's awesome! I'm sure we can all appreciate growing out of a place.

And, what was your decor inspiration?

Similar to my last bedroom, I continue to pull inspiration from the beach. This time around I knew I wanted to make a bold statement so I went with a deep navy for the walls (Hale Navyby Benjamin Moore). In order to keep the space still bright and fresh, I opted for white linen drapes and white bedding from Pottery Barn. Last but not least, I can't decorate a bedroom without hanging sunhats on the wall!

Well, you've got to keep somethings consistent, right?

Was there anything in particular that you did different in this space vs previous homes?

I haven't chosen a bold paint color before but I am so happy with the color choice as it truly pulls everything together. The color perfectly compliments the bold prints on my John Robshaw pillows fromGansett Lane Home, the blue and white rug fromAnnie Selke, and the natural wood night stands fromThe Mine.

You have a growing GM collection, what drew you to this new piece?

I've always been a fan of Gray's aerial beach photography. My last piece was from Australia and since Gray was coming out with a new Australia series, I instantly knew I wanted something from the latest collection. I think theByron Bay Sunbatherspieceis perfect for inspiring wanderlust all year long. Although I have never been to Australia, it's certainly on my bucket list. Can Gray pack me in his suit case on his next trip!?

Haha! Even with my best travel hacks, I'm not sure even I'd be able to pull that one off, but I'm certainly ready with lots of tips whenever you're ready to go. In the meantime, thanks so very much to Lauren for sharing your beautiful new bedroom. I love the classic nautical choices combined with a bit more light hearted selections in bedding and accessories. It looks perfectly welcoming and blissful, so applaudes to you!
