Home/Room Tour: How to Style Gray Malin Wallpaper in Your Home

by

Hi Everyone,

We’re officially in 2020! I’ve always felt like January is a great time to give your home a refresh after the madness from the holidays. And, who doesn’t love a good project to kick-off the new year? I was so inspired when I saw this space from Ashley Izsak that I knew I had to share it with you all. Ashley used Gray Malin X Mitchell Black Wallpaper in Ocean Waves to add a pop to the walls of her twins’ bedroom and, if you ask me, it’s the perfect finishing touch on the room. I’ll let Ashley take it from here!

Please tell us a little bit about yourself, where you live, what you like to do for fun, etc.

Nestled in a small village outside on the outskirts of Ottawa, I live with my husband, our twin daughters and toddler son in a renovated 80s bungalow on ½ acre property surrounded by trees. I’ve been blogging and writing for more than a decade. I started writing when we found out we needed IVF to have children. I’ve always shared a mix of motherhood, interiors and style but decided to pursue my design passion after we had twins. I currently work as a freelance designer while also staying at home with our son. We are a passionate camping family and spend close to 30 nights each summer glamping in our remodeled pop up camper.

Can you tell us a little bit about what you do and how you fell into your current career?

I’ve been styling and designing spaces for friends and family for years but it was really five years ago when our twins took off to kindergarten that I had the space and time to pursue it as a career. I specialize in crafting memorable interiors and visual stories for small commercial shops and individual residences. In short, I design interiors and websites / an odd mix you may think but it’s the perfect way to design in different facets of life. One of my largest projects to date includes a recently opened coffee shop and bar. I am also quite active on Instagram and have been fortunate to work with several amazing brands. My husband Andrew is an engineer by trade but super handy at home and he works to bring my designs to life in our own home.

What inspired you to choose wallpaper for your daughters’ room instead of traditional paint? What about wallpaper do you think feels special?

I really wanted to make the space beautiful and fun. I wanted our twins to love their room but I also wanted to love it. We’ve done paint and our home is mostly white on white with a pop of colour here and there. We were working on this project for the One Room Challenge and I kept repeating the mantra go big or go home.

What drew you to Gray Malin Wallpaper in particular? How did you end up choosing the Ocean Waves pattern?

I sat down with our twin 8 year old daughters and we started going through various wallpaper patterns. When we landed on this one we all loved the turquoise waves and the fact that from afar it looked abstract, where as up close you can see the actual water details. I popped it into the design plan and started pitching the whole look to brands and everyone just loved it.

When were you first introduced to the Gray Malin brand? Do you have a favorite piece or series?

I’ve had my eye on his work for quite some time now but I just love his photos from Bermuda and the vintage feel some of them have.

What about the Gray Malin brand do you connect with the most?

I am a huge fan of white space combined with pops of colour and Gray’s photography really lends itself to that aesthetic. I also love his lifestyle section and the fact that Gray is a father to twins and shares a little about parenting as well. I really enjoy brands that tell a story.

Doesn’t the wallpaper bring so much life to the space? Ashley, thank you so much for welcoming us into your home. I love how you styled the wallpaper for your twin daughters!

Check out the wallpaper selection and see if one will work in your home here.

Cheers!

Xx
