Design Direction: How to Create a Spa Oasis at Home

Hi Everyone,

After several weeks of traveling from one destination to the next for work and play, I have to say I have really come to appreciate the feeling of coming home to a serene space. Whether you’re returning from a long trip or even just a hectic day at the office, it’s truly imperative that your home offers a place to retreat and relax. (Believe me, it’s more than just a luxury… It’s a necessity!) And while it’s safe to say we all love a good day at the spa to relieve stress, that’s obviously not always an option. Luckily, it’s 100 percent possible to make your own master bath into the retreat of your dreams. So follow along with me as I dish out a few of my favorite tips for creating the ultimate spa oasis right at home, no intensive remodeling required…

Choose Beautiful, Serene Artwork

If there’s one thing that will truly whisk you away to an “oasis,” it’s having a piece of serene artwork on the walls to help you escape. This is a personal preference, of course, but I’ve included a few of my favorite serene prints below that are sure to melt away your stress. Whether your ideal retreat is somewhere poolside, kicking back on the sand, or tucked away in the mountains, there’s guaranteed to be a print that will fit the bill…

  1. Aqua Waters, Whitsunday Island, $249+ | 2. Man in Red Shorts, Bora Bora, $249+ | 3. The Wave, St. Barths, $249+ | 4. The Loungers, Italy, $299+ | 5. Kua Bay Umbrellas, Vertical, $249+ | 6. Snowy Birch Trees, $249+ | 7. Palm Beach Stroll, $249+

Change Your Shower Head

Let’s be honest, nothing is less relaxing than catching a glimpse of that ugly, old showerhead with weak water pressure when you step into the shower. So next up on the list to make your bathroom into a home spa oasis? Swap out your run-of-the-mill showerhead for a spa-worthy replacement. If to you that simply means one that’s beautiful and luxurious in design, then opt for something like this solid brass classic European style. Or, if you’re strictly looking for function, try this cost-effective showerhead with seven different settings below…

  1. 12” LED/LCD Rainfall Showerhead, $59.99 | 2. Kingston Brass Showerhead in Oil-Rubbed Bronze, $60.99 | 3. Waterpik Rainfall+ Showerhead, $34.99 | 4. Delta HydroRain 5-Setting Showerhead, $144.20 | 5. Barclay Polished Brass Showerhead, $538 | 6. Oxygenics Curve 3-Spray Showerhead, $73.47 | 7. Delta H2OKinetic 5-Setting Raincan Showerhead, $120.50 | 8. Moen Waterhill Rainshower Showerhead, $257.99 | 9. Waterpik Rainfall+ 7-Mode Showerhead, $33.99

Always Have a Robe on Hand

I think it’s safe to say that one of the greatest perks of a spa day is that moment when you’re greeted with a warm, plush robe that’s just waiting for you to bundle up. And if you ask me, no home spa is complete without one! After all, what better way to be welcomed home after a long day than with a soft robe? Here are a few of my favorite picks made in plush terry, luxurious washed silk, Belgian linen, and more…

  1. Turkish Hydro Cotton Bathrobe, $99 | 2. Men’s Ultra Lux Robe, $125 | 3. Plush Woven Robe in Plaid, $83.30 | 4. Cotton Waffle Bath Wrap, $38 | 5. Asceno Striped Silk Robe, $347.50 | 6. Belgian Flax Linen Robe, $79 | 7. Nightshirt in End-On-End Cotton, $68

Ditch the Bath Mat (& Add a Real Rug)

Sure, bath mats are a fool-proof option when it comes to bath décor—but they’re not always the prettiest. To give your home spa an even more elevated feel, lay down a small rug (or two) that add some character to the space. Keep in mind, you’ll want to pay attention to what material your bathroom rug is made from, and if it is easy to clean (and don’t forget a non-slip rug pad underneath!). Options like cotton, chenille, or even bamboo are best, but there are a variety of options that will do. The bottom line is, with a beautiful rug, you’ll never see it as just a bathroom ever again…

  1. Zig Cotton Dhurrie, $99.99+ | 2. Bold Stripe Cotton Rug, Platinum, $149+ | 3. Bayside Stripe Rug, $ 50+ | 4. Bianca Rug, $56+ | 5. Mixed Stripes Cotton Dhurrie, $99+ | 6. Athens Outdoor Rug, $98+ | 7. Fibreworks Custom Color-Bound Seagrass Rug, $28+

Makeover Your Vanity

Last, but not least, we’re turning our attention to the vanity. Nothing makes a home spa feel like the real deal more than the right products and accessories, so don’t be shy when it comes to your shopping. But if you don’t want to empty your pocket book on bath accessories, a few essentials like a calming candle, a chic tray, and some effective products should still do the trick…

  1. Pressed Glass Accessories, $14.50-$30.50 | 2. Monogrammed Square Paperwhite Soap Set, $49 | 3. Lollia ‘Wish’ Bubble Bath, $50 | 4. The Sand Candle, $49 | 5. Palm Leaf Dish, $20 | 6. The Bora Bora Tray, $295 | 7. Barr-Co. Marine Hand Duo, $54.51 | 8. Trish McEvoy Skin Care Trio, $130 | 9. Simplehuman Sensor Mirror Pro, $250 | 10. Hammered Brass Bath Accessories, $15-$39

Who else is in the mood for a home spa day?

I think I’m overdue for a little R&R…

Cheers,

xx
