Home/Room Tour: Erin Foster

Hi Everyone,

When my friend and art curator Alessandra of Citizen Atelier reached out about a client's home she was styling, I was intrigued as I always love seeing her work. For this particular project, her client was particulary fond of the Italian Riviera, so naturally I popped into her mind. As it turns out, the client was none other than the talented actress and writer, Erin Foster. Since Erin is basedin Los Angeles, as well, it was easy for Alessandra to stop into the studio to review a variety of options from the Italian coast. Unsurprisingly, the La Dolce Vita seriesand she chose a special print from Sicily. Let's hear from Erin now on the final results of the room..

What drew you to this particular Gray Malin print? Do you have a personal connection to the location?

My instinct was to get one of the photos from the Amalfi Coast, which Ithink are so beautiful. But once I started digging a little deeper into his work, I saw so many other options that I hadn’t seen before. The Amalfi Coast shots of the umbrellas are iconic, and I started to get excited about a Sicily piece that was not as popular. I love how this piece catches people in candid moments, nothing staged. And the pale color of the sky against the pale rocks, just feels calming to look at...

Could you tell us a little bit about your design inspiration for this room? Was it something you and Alessandra landed on together?

I wanted it to have an organic modern feel to it, and have most of the color in the room to come from the floor up. Alessandra had the idea that the room really needed a large plant, and she was right. It anchored the room. She also helped me choose the Gray Malin print, suggesting that I should get one that had muted colors and was subtle. I really love how it all came together.

How do you typically go about choosing artwork?

I ask a lot of questions. I don’t pretend to know a lot about art, and I usually assume that the appropriate message is being lost on me. But the more confident I become in my decisions, the better my taste seems to get. The idea is to not let someone else’s opinion change your own. I like what makes me feel good, and what makes me think, and what doesn’t feel contrived.

And lastly, whatabout the Gray Malin brand do you connect with? (...How does it fit in with your lifestyle?)

"It’s hard to explain what you love about an artist or photographer, but the best way Icould describe it, is that the subjects of his photographs are just a part of a bigger color story or feeling being conveyed. I like the unexpected things he focuses on, and every time I look at a piece I see something new, it always seems to be evolving. I love that. Ordinary moments become extraordinary through his lens.

Well, I couldn't ask for much more than that! Thank you Erin for sharing your home and thoughts with us as well as a special thanks to Alessandra for playing such a pivotal role in it all! For everyone following along, thank you - as always - and I hope you enjoyed today's tour! If you're feeling inspired by Erin's style, today's the day to get her print or find your favorite from theLa Dolce Vitaseries.

Cheers,

xx
