The perfect summer mani inspired by

You may remember us making an announcement last month about how we’ll be featuring manicure tutorials here on the blog and showing you how to create nail art inspired by some of our favorite Gray Malin prints. Last month, we showed you how to create a tropical “I Am Busy” mani, and today our inspiration is none other that Gray’s “Paros Yellow Umbrellas” print! Gray photographed this print on the coast of the Greek Isles, and it’s one of our favorite European beach scenes in his collection. The white and blue striped beach chairs paired with the yellow umbrellas leave us with a major case of wanderlust. Bring the Greek Isles into your home by scooping up Gray’s “Paros Yellow Umbrellas” print here. So with this inspiration in mind, we headed over to our favorite nail salon, Olive & June, where this print came to life on our fingertips. Take a peek below to find out how you can recreate this yellow umbrella manicure at home (and be sure to share you photos with us on Instagram if you do give this tutorial a try)…

  1. Start by giving your nails a base coat, then paint them a pale, sky blue color like Essie's "Borrowed & Blue".

  2. Using a thin nail art brush, make the outline of an umbrella with a white polish like Butter London's "Cotton Buds" (you want to use white for this step so that the yellow appears solid when you paint over it). To make the umbrella outline, we started at the top of our cuticle line and painted downward, making three small points at the bottom. These small points will be the points of your umbrella. Fill this shape in completely with your white polish.

  3. Using your thin nail art brush again, go over your white umbrella shape with a banana yellow polish like Julep's "Catrina".

  4. Let dry. Now it’s time for the details…

  5. To make the small umbrella lines, use your white polish and outline the yellow umbrella shape. Paint two lines downward, ending at the umbrella points, and make a thin white line for the umbrella pole. Finish off with a coat of clear polish and get ready for admirers to notice your summery yellow umbrella nails!
