Design Direction: Decorating with the Pantone Color of the Year, Living Coral

byTeam GM

We’ve covered our fair share of Pantone content here on the blog and we’re back for more… But can you blame us? Last year, we matched a print with all of Pantone’s 2018 color picks, but today we’re just focusing on one—and that one is the Pantone 2019 Color of the Year, Living Coral. We were especially excited about this pick, as this has been a color close to our hearts for years already. (In fact, Gray’s entryway in his first home was painted the prettiest coral hue!)

With that in mind, we’re revisiting this long-loved color, and we rounded up a few ways to incorporate it into your own home for a modern pop of color this year. So whether you’re office, living room, or kitchen needs a little décor update, keep scrolling to see how we’re using Living Coral in 2019…

For the Office

The office was the first place we thought of when Living Coral was announced as the Color of the Year. This space is the perfect place to play with color, and it always helps to have something vibrant and energizing to keep your spirits up when you have to sit down at your desk to get work done. Here are a few coral pink pieces that would easily bring this space to life…

  1. Saybrook XL Lantern with Brass, $5,795 | 2. Love Birds Print, $299+ | 3. Mimi Armchair, $1,195 | 4. Snake Valet Tray, $68 | 5. Coral 20x20 Pillow, $185 | 6. Bright Ceramicist Vases, $14-$59 | 7. Nouveau Tapestry Wall Art, $59 | 8. Easton Secretary Desk, $5,995 | 9. Quatrefoil Table Lamp, $349

For the Kitchen

The kitchen is another room in the home where bright colors are welcome, and can bring a much-needed dose of personality to an otherwise “basic” space. What we love about Living Coral is that it feels cheery and warm, which is exactly the vibe we want to get across in any kitchen.

  1. Feather Wallpaper, $98 | 2. KitchenAid Artisan Bird of Paradise 5-Quart Mixer, $379.99 | 3. Pink Balloons II Print, $299+ | 4. Charcoal Companion Himalayan Salt Block, $34.95 | 5. Matilda Plastic Dining Chair, $75.99 | 6. Nile Glass Planter, $149 | 7. Newport Rectangle Mirror, $1,850 | 8. Ravella Mug, $7.95 | 9. Violette Canister, $28

For the Living Room

When it comes to the living room, some are all about color, while other homeowners prefer more subdued tones. With Living Coral being such a vibrant hue, we decided to look on the softer side of things when decorating the living room for a look that is lived-in, comfortable and serene, while still feeling full of life. Here is how we imagine Pantone’s Color of the Year in the main living space…

  1. Caterina Chair, $718.40 | 2. Pink and White Umbrellas, Miami, $249+ | 3. Salamanca Rug, $79+ | 4. Cecilia Sofa, $1,595 | 5. Justina Blakeney Hola Lumbar Pillow, $79 | 6. Ivy Cocktail Ottoman, $1,295 | 7. Cara Throw, $44 | 8. Trevi Lamp Ensemble, $158

What do you think? Are you on board with Living Coral?

We certainly are! P.S. Gray shared his 2019 color trend predictions a few months ago… Do you think he was right? ;)
