One of the many perks of my job is that I get to jetset all over the world and see incredible places from a totally unique point of view (from above!). Not only does this make for some fun images, but it also allows me to refine my list of best getaway spots. Summer is in full effect right now, so it’s time to start packing up those swimsuits and planning a summer vacation to really soak up these warm and sunny months. If you don’t know where to start, keep scrolling for some vacation ideas to get your brain moving. Who knows, after seeing these dreamy spots you might be booking a trip sooner than you think… Enjoy!
1. AMALFI
Let’s start off this list with a truly laid-back location: Amalfi. This vacation spot is full of amazing old-world details, like cobblestone streets and towering cliffs dipping into the sea. One of the best features, of course, is the city’s relationship to the coast. It’s the perfect destination for the more adventurous type to go sailing, or if you feel like taking things slow you can kick back and relax on the sand. So lay out a towel, grab some gelato, and soak up some rays!
2. BARCELONA
Just look at the colors of this place! Filled with quirky character, there is something eye-catching everywhere you turn in Barcelona, Spain. Not only are Barcelona’s beaches naturally beautiful, but the city is also a buzzing metropolis, which makes the location perfect for lazy days on the beach and energetic nights out on the town. My No. 1 piece of advice for Spain is this: see the city on bikes! There’s so much to take in, and touring the streets on wheels really gives you the opportunity to see a lot, while still getting up close to the sights. 3. CAPRI
Capri, Italy is another favorite of mine. The city is packed with things to do and places to stay, ranging from high-end resorts to renovated seaside villas and guesthouses. Full of idyllic churches and museums, the architecture and natural scenery is truly a sight to see. If that’s not quite your thing, you can always simply spend an afternoon watching the boats coast on the water (or take a boat ride yourself!) Not only are the sights amazing, but the food is too. 4. HAMPTONS
Montauk, Point Beach Vertical
The Hamptons is known as an exclusive summer community, filled with residents and visitors alike. This beachfront location is perfect for a summertime getaway, where you can take surf or paddle board lessons, explore hiking trails, or frequent museums and historical houses. Don’t worry, there’s also an exciting nightlife if you feel like getting out of the hotel and exploring the area! The destination as a whole has an upscale vibe, and is a great place to land if you don’t feel like being “touristy.” The area offers a lot of condo communities that you can rent for a more lived-in vacation experience.
5. MIAMI
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Miami is SUN, SUN, SUN. This location in Florida has long been known as a hot vacation spot, dotted with white sand beaches and eclectic Art Deco design. Not to mention the endless array of hearty Cuban food to choose from (who could complain about that?) This destination is full of surprises, and unique sights and experiences. Bottom line? Miami is full of energy and flavor, and is the perfect place for a summer getaway.
6. MYKONOS
If you’re thinking of a Greek getaway, Mykonos is the way to go. (How picturesque are these straw umbrellas and colorful chaise loungers?) The location’s free-spirited atmosphere is something out of a dream, and right alongside this dreamy beach landscape is a happening nightlife. Not only is it perfectly picturesque, but it’s also easily accessible. The spot has its own airport so you can fly directly into Mykonos (which is rare on the Greek islands), and immediately head to the sand! What more could you ask for?
7. RIO DE JANEIRO
I cannot say enough good things about Rio. The city is so full of life, that you truly can’t get bored visiting this hot spot. It’s one of the biggest metropolitan areas in Brazil, so there is an infectious hustle and bustle that is constantly energizing. (Hint: if you want a real party, make sure to go during Carnaval for a truly exotic trip.) Oh, and do I even need to mention the beaches? They’re a given! Rio is famous for its beaches and the spot is also where the 2016 Summer Olympics are being held, so pack your bags, witness the Olympic games, and spend some time on the sand!
8.ST. BARTH
St. Barth is truly luxurious. The location is a bit more quiet and subdued than some of its other summery competitors, and is dripping in refined relaxation. (Tip: If you’ve ever wanted to spend time basking in the sun on a yacht, St. Barth is the place to do it.) If you feel like getting out and exploring, there are plenty of places to shop for designer pieces and one-of-a-kind treasures. Oh, and the climate on this tropical island is nearly perfect. Basically, if you’re looking for “paradise,” this is your escape.
9. TROPEZ
St. Tropez, located on the French Riviera, is surprisingly accessible, which makes for a great vacation destination. The town is just a short trip from Nice or Cannes, and is overflowing with all things that make an unforgettable vacation: gourmet cuisine, a lively atmosphere, and sunny beaches! The best thing about this destination is its French charm mixed with its luxurious laid-back vibe. Plus, there’s plenty to do off-sand. If you want a break from the beach, hit the town on foot and explore the unique markets and French cafes. You can’t go wrong here.
10. SYDNEY
Last (but certainly not least), Sydney, Australia easily makes my list of top vacation spots. The location is full of personality, and is really so much fun. There is no shortage of sandy beaches, but that’s not all there is to do… Take a trip to the fish market if you’re a lover of seafood, or take in the impressive view of the Sydney Opera House. There’s so much to do and see, and overall feels like an exotic experience full of adventure. No matter what you do, don’t forget the sunscreen!
