Hi Everyone,

Today, I am so very proud to release a brand new series titled, The Red Carpet, which is a paid project provided by Disney.Inspired by global icon, Minnie Mouse, I staged a classically styled black tie affair atop the spectacular red threaded floor to bring the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown to life from a whole new perspective.

When Disney and I first discussed creating a collaboration in celebration of forthcoming National Polka Dot day, I wasn't sure what direction to go in! Observing Minnie's polka dot dress closely, I realized that the red color of the fabric was a similar shade to the red coloring of an event carpet. From there, I began imagining the scenery of a red carpet from the aerial perspective with various white dots creating the same pattern as her dress. Because parasols are both glamorous and a favored accessory of Minnie, they were the perfect prop to bring the white dots to life through a unique lens.

With the creative concept in mind, I was inspired to push myself one step further to create my first ever video art installation piece as parasols inherently create dynamic movement.

Thinking of old Hollywood, and the original flip books that brought animation from still images to moving pictures, I imagined the dots I would photograph moving around the carpet to create various shapes and patterns.

This movement is captured in our first piece of video art and within the stills captured are The Leading Lady Vertical and The Leading Lady Horizontal.

Whenever we are collaborating with a partner, it is important to me that it is rooted in synergy, authenticity and creativity. Part of the magic of working with Disney on this special project is that I am a lifelong member of its audience, and so I felt an intuitive understanding and connection with the character we were celebrating, the brand ethos and aesthetic. As an artist, Disney’s tradition of imagination and creativity challenged me to think broadly about the possibilities for the project.

Thank you Minnie for being the inspirational icon that you are, and thank you all out there for following along! You’ll definitely want to stay tuned throughout the week as I’ll be releasing additional images as well as taking you behind the scenes on how all of this magic happened!

Xx
