Jetset Journal: Behind the Lens, The Red Carpet

nHi Everyone

As we all know, the beginning of a new year is a time that we reflect of those behind us. I am very lucky to have a wealth of wonderful moments to look back on, so starting this year, I have decided to create a new on-going series of posts that will live as part of my Jetset Journals. Unlike a Behind the Scenes post, these will be a retrospection on when I created something at this time...in the past. To kick it off, I'm focused on my seriesThe Red Carpet, which was released last January. It also happens to in conjunction with myfirst video installation, both of which celebrated one iconic muse - Minnie Mouse. In fact, earlier this week, I had the pleasure of attending Minnie's Hollywood Star Presentation, presentedby none other than a polka-dot clad Katy Perry.

To work with a global brand such as Disney was a complete dream come true, and it also brought about a ton of new experience when it came to approaching the creation of a series. Typically, I am a one man show working alongside my trusted creative and production team during a photo shoot. Think Far Far Away II. With Disney, though it was much larger in every way and for that, I will always treasure my experience and lessons gained from working with them. The idea was simple - inspired by the glamorous landscape of the red carpet, this series intended tocelebrate the glitz and the glamour of Hollywood and at the center of it all, it was Minnie, herself.

The execution of it...was of course, not so simple. Creating somethng great never is, though! To accomplish this multi-faceted 3-D creative project, I tapped my friend and choreographer,Mary John Frankto actualize what was in my mind into a reality. With her help, we enlisted a dazzling group of dancers, who along with Minnie, danced to a choragraphed number all the while opening and closing parisols.

Where was I?....Oh a mere44 feet above snapping every single moment of it all.

The result was The Red Carpetseries and my first ever video installation, which at one point last January was played in Times Square! WOW

Needless to say, a lot happened in 2017, but this was a January for the memory book! To see more about how this was created, look no further than right here and to see the series in it's entirety be sure to go toThe Red Capert under our photography tab on the website.

Cheers,

xx
