Hi Everyone,

I’m excited to introduce you to Kate Taylor, who caught my attention via Instagram. Based in Chicago, she is the owner and namesake behind Kate Taylor Interiors, an innovative design firm that focuses on individual client tastes and lifestyles. Kate tagged me in one of her Instagram posts, which lead me to direct message her about it. As we all know, there isn't much I love more than seeing my work brought to life in a beautifully decorated space, so I was eager to learn about her work.

It turned out that the shot she tagged me in was not the only project she had utilized some of my work in. In fact, she had three different clients with three different framed prints of mine! As we got to talking and I learned more about Kate and her clients, I knew telling this story would be a fun one for us all to hear about.

Before we get into these three design projects...

Kate, will you tell us a little bit about yourself and your business?

Launched in 2014, Kate Taylor Interiors, LTD. is a full-service, luxury interior design firm based in Chicago with projects throughout the country. We focus mainly on residential interiors - our recent projects include a complete gut renovation of a 1940s Laguna Beach bungalow, a ground-up new build on Lake Michigan, a Washington D.C. bachelor pad, and numerous city and suburban homes

I, too, live in Chicago along with my husband and 2 year old daughter, Ruby. We love city living and all that it entails:weekend farmers markets, Lake Michigan beaches, neighborhood brunches and of course, spending time with family and friends.

And, what would you say isyour style when it comes to decorating a new space?

Clean, luxurious, tailored, but very comfortable and livable.

I can see that based on these three client's rooms. Let's dive into them, shall we?

BEDROOM - LA FONTELINA BEACH CLUB, CAPRI

For this client's Bachelor Pad, he wanted a luxurious and chic apartment, which is most evident in the master bedroom. We incorporated the color pallette of greys and navy throughout the furnishings, bedding and other high end fabric accessories. He was the one who found this particular Gray photo, andI knew right away that it was a perfect fit for the space when he showed me. It had the right tone and colors for the space. Plus, he had recently vacationed in Italy, so it offered him a perfect reminder of that time.

Oh, I love that! Also, lucky him, as this particular print is sold out.Three Chairs Fontelina and La Fontelina Beach Club are both great alternatives, though for those of you that are inspired to get the look.

LIVING ROOM - TOP OF ASPEN MOUNTAIN

I love the way this room turned out. The clients were a newly married couple, andour vision for this space was an eclectic vibe mixed with mid century, mixed with livability. Different from the other two rooms showcased here, this space hada good amount of color, which meant the art we selected would need to play the more neutral role. This ski aerialfrom Gray has a lot of white space, which played off of the saturated hues on the walls, sofa, and rug.

LIVING ROOM - POSITANO WOODEN BOAT

This client was a family of 4 living in a city loft apartment. We had a big comfy sectional sofa in place and it was begging for the perfect eye catching art to hang above it. Considering the loft space waspretty neutral throughout, I knew our art selections needed to have a bit of color and fun. This print of the Postitano did just the trick! Also, the couple had a personal connection to it, as well. It turns out they honeymooned in Italy.

How much emphasis do you put on artwork selection versus something like furniture?

You can have a space filled with the most beautiful furniture and rugs but it will feel so blah without the right art in place. Art is such an essential part of any room.

I couldn't agree more! I really love how all three came together in the final look. Each one has its own personality and character, which I'm sure reflects both you and your client's vision.

Thank you! As it turns out, they all had a personal connection to their selected Gray Malin photographs. I noted that the Italian prints both sparked connections with the client, but I'm also happy to share that the couple who own the Aspen print were engaged in this destination. I think that was a huge part of theinspiration behindeach selectedGM print. Secondly, I love our clean polished aesthetic combined with the sharpness / brightness / lightness / colorfulness of the prints. The GM prints just elevate and complete our projects - I think we are a perfect pair!

Wow! It has been so interesting learning more about you and your clients, Kate! Thank you so much for sharing with me and with everyone following along...it has been so fun to hear about your approach as a designer as well as the thought put into each piece in every client's space.
